ITT Industries
Awarded Navy Missile Payload Systems Contract
White Plains, NY - November 7, 2005 – ITT Corporation (NYSE:ITT)
today announced it received a five-year contract to provide the U.S.
Navy Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) with engineering,
programmatic, and operational support services. Under terms of the
contract -- worth a potential estimated value of $34 million -- ITT
will supply weapon system development, scientific analysis and
operation and maintenance of the nation’s submarine-launched,
ballistic missile systems and payloads.
“ITT
has extensive experience in providing operational support to SSP and
has the technical capabilities and understanding necessary to assist
the Navy in achieving its strategic deterrent missions,” said Ralph
Meoni, president of ITT Advanced Engineering and Sciences. “ITT’s
technical and operational know-how is invaluable in the evaluation
of the nation’s strategic weapon’s systems and we are proud to play
an important role in the nation’s safety and defense.”
ITT
will apply its expertise in missile safety, training, inspections
and systems analysis to support the Navy’s transition and upgrade of
strategic deterrent and missile systems. As part of this initiative,
ITT will assist in and provide independent assessment of the
process, design, testing and laboratory development of new missile
solutions, as well as determine the vulnerabilities of individual
payloads.
In
addition, ITT will be responsible for evaluating nuclear surety,
radiological health and radiation control, technology and
application programs. ITT will use its knowledge of nuclear weapons
effects, its ability to define hostile nuclear environments
requirements and its understanding of assessing the survivability,
accuracy, and effectiveness of the weapon system in nuclear
environments to provide analysis of payloads and reentry systems’
life extension, refurbishment and modifications. This expertise is
critical as the U.S. extends the service life of deployed strategic
weapons systems.
